About Me
I believe the written word has the power to change the way we see the world. Story can transport us into other worlds, other cultures, and other ways of thinking. A well-written story can help us cross divides.
My name is Laura Matney. I am a writer and Author Accelerator certified book coach.
I believe each of us has a unique background and set of experiences. Good writing creates opportunities to form connections and shift our thinking. I coach to create a safe place for people to create work that shines a light on authentic experiences and carves out space for greater understanding. I coach to help writers find their way to “the end” because I believe in the power of story to bring us together.
As a book coach, I believe the world needs to hear your voice. The right coach helps you get the story out of your head to engage readers and potentially shift the way they view the world. I have a map and can help you avoid the pitfalls and unhelpful side quests so you can complete your story and prepare it for the next step in the journey.

Monthly Coaching
Lost in the forest of drafting or revising? Struggling to find “the end?” I can be your guide. We will work together for as long as coaching is working for you. Armed with a plan we agree on together, ongoing feedback from me, and twice a month Zoom sessions, I can help you find your way to finishing your quest.

Manuscript Review
You’ve finished a draft and have the nagging feeling it isn’t enchanting yet, but don’t know what exactly is keeping the spell from working? Most people make the same mistakes when drafting a story, but it can be hard to see when you are so close to the work. With a manuscript review, you receive a full evaluation focused on finding where your magic is working and where it needs a boost. After a one-hour Zoom session to discuss the evaluation, you will have a plan to make your story spellbinding.

Cost: $600 one time fee
Day of Discovery
Spend a day online with me to dive deep into one of the issues your manuscript review revealed. We can spend the time building out your magic system, firming up the world your characters exist in, and more. We'll decide together how to spend our one-on-one time. This day will include three sessions plus breaks.
